This cushion was influenced by an Indian Sari that I just had to buy recently. The colours are so rich and beautiful in olive greens, shades of tan and beige. I have added some orange into the flowers and have digitized a design where the leaves and flowers are appliquéd in silk. The gathered piping gives a rich appearance.

Applique Method
The leaves are appliquéd in a dupion silk fabric on top of a 3mm (1/8th") layer of pellon.A running stitch is digitized first to outline the leaves. After this is stitched, carefully take the hoop off the machine and trim the silk back close to the outside of the leaves. Place the hoop back on the machine and then finish the design.Lay the silk for the flower over the area where it will stitch with 2 layers of 3mm (1/8th") pellon under it and a running stitch will catch it down. Take hoop off again and trim around the outside edge of the flower. Place hoop back on the machine and complete the design.
When digitizing is completed, the design has been centered and saved as Stitch Data XXX which is the Singer extended format.I have mirrored the design for each corner both horizontally and vertically for perfect accuracy and have included it on the CD.There is 2 motifs ie: The appliqué flower - mirrored horizontally and vertically (ie: 4 times). The side leaves - mirrored horizontally (ie 2 times) Print the designs onto Vellum tracing paper to use as templates.
To use the designs with Futura
Place the CD in you Disk Drive and go to the design browser then select your CD drive and it will open and display the folders on the CD and the formats. You can read most common formats including PEC, PES, HUS, SEW, PCS, EXP, DST so no need to convert to sew. Select the design you wish to sew.It opens in your hoop. Print a template on Vellum Tracing Paper to help line up designs. Hoop your project as per the template. Send it to the machine to sew.

Pattern sheet for borders is enclosed
Add ¼"seam allowance at each end
3 shaped borders can be cut from a 12cm (4¾") strip of silk
|
Preparation
- Cut cushion top in beige silk (16"square)
- Cut a piece of 3mm (1/8th") pellon to back
- Cut 2 cushion backs 42cm x 29, (16 ½"x 11 ½") iron on 6cm ( 2 ¼" )interfacing to centre edges and fold back to form a facing as you would do for buttonholes
- Stitch on the Velcro squares to fasten back - overlap as if you were making buttonholes. Put aside till top is embroidered.
- Iron border silk onto visoflix
- Cut borders as per pattern sheet enclosed
- Join corner seams and press open, then press the border onto cushion top making sure it attaches well
- Using special purpose foot, choose a lacy stitch for the centre edges of the border eg: number 32, 33, 74 on the default setting and sew next to the raw edge of the border. Seal with a 3ml (1/8") satin stitch in a matching thread.
- Wind approx 4 bobbins with 60 weight bobbinfil
- Lightly mark centre cross on cushion
- Prepare gathered welting - cut 7cm (2 ¾") strips on the straight grain. If using dupion silk cut so the vertical grain wraps around the cording as it will sit neater when gathered.
- Cut 2 to 3 times the length of piping. Joins will not show. Fold the strip of fabric around cording right side out, matching raw edges.
- Stitch about 30cm (12") using zipper foot close to cord. Stop stitching leaving needle in fabric.
- Pull cording gently and push fabric to the back gathering firmly behind needle. Continue till all gathered.
